Failed your colonoscopy prep? scientists test three rescue options to find the best clean.
NCT ID NCT07557173
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares three different bowel-cleansing regimens for adults who need a repeat colonoscopy because their first prep didn't work well enough. Participants are randomly assigned to take one of three laxative combinations before their second colonoscopy. The study measures how clean the bowel gets and how satisfied patients are with the process.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
polyethylene glycol (PEG) with or without bisacodyl or ascorbic acid
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could identify the most effective rescue bowel preparation, making repeat colonoscopies easier and more reliable for patients who had a failed prep.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial (220 participants) comparing existing drugs, not a new breakthrough. Results may not apply to all patients or settings.
