Doctors test two ways to fix swallowing problem - which works better?
NCT ID NCT04578769
Summary
This study compares two versions of a minimally invasive procedure called POEM that helps people with achalasia swallow more easily. Doctors are testing whether cutting just the inner muscle layer or cutting through the full muscle thickness works better for relieving symptoms while minimizing side effects like acid reflux. The study involves 52 adults with specific types of achalasia who haven't had previous surgery for their condition.
