Small study seeks best numbing dose for skin surgery

NCT ID NCT06694714

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing how long two different volumes of a common numbing medicine (lidocaine with epinephrine) keep the skin numb during dermatologic surgery. Researchers will inject either 0.5 ml or 1.0 ml into the side of the nose in 35 adults and check every 15 minutes when feeling returns. The goal is to see if a larger volume provides a meaningfully longer numbing effect.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

lidocaine with epinephrine

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors choose the best anesthetic volume for numbing highly vascular skin areas, improving patient comfort during minor surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study (35 participants) focused on measuring numbness duration, not on treating a disease. Results may not apply to other body sites or anesthetics.
