Laser eye surgery showdown: which technique gives the best vision?
NCT ID NCT07201298
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a new type of LASIK (Ray-Tracing Guided) with three other common laser eye surgeries (SMILE, Wavefront Optimized LASIK, and Topography Guided LASIK) to see which one provides the best vision after surgery. Researchers will enroll 120 people with nearsightedness (with or without astigmatism) and follow them for 12 months. The goal is to measure how many people achieve 20/20 vision or better without glasses.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Laser eye surgery (LASIK and SMILE)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show which laser eye surgery technique gives the sharpest vision with the fewest side effects for nearsighted people.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study (120 people) comparing existing techniques, not testing a new cure. Results may not apply to everyone, and all laser surgeries carry risks like dry eyes or glare.
