Laparoscopic showdown: which surgical technique helps gastric cancer patients recover better?
NCT ID NCT05541783
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares two minimally invasive surgical techniques for removing the lower part of the stomach in people with gastric cancer: laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG) and totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (TLDG). The goal is to see which approach leads to better short-term quality of life, focusing on physical function and pain one month after surgery. About 213 patients with early to moderately advanced gastric cancer will take part across multiple centers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
laparoscopic surgery (LADG or TLDG)
What this could lead to
If one method proves better, it could help surgeons choose the approach that improves recovery and reduces pain for gastric cancer patients.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial focusing on short-term quality of life, so long-term benefits or differences may not be clear. Results may not apply to all gastric cancer patients.
