New video laryngoscope aims to make intubation safer and easier for awake patients
NCT ID NCT07624162
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a new video laryngoscope called i-scoop makes placing a breathing tube easier and safer than the standard C-Mac D-Blade device. Two hundred adults having surgery will be randomly assigned to one device while awake but sedated. Researchers will measure success, ease, and complications to see which tool works better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If the i-scoop proves more practical, it could become a preferred tool for airway management, making intubation easier and safer for patients who are breathing on their own.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial at one hospital, so results may not apply broadly. The study focuses on practicality, not long-term outcomes, and there is always a risk of complications like low oxygen or discomfort.
