New study tests if Gum-Sparing dental implants preserve more bone
NCT ID NCT07663045
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two ways to place dental implants: the traditional method where the gum is cut open, and a newer flapless guided method that uses a 3D-printed guide to place the implant without cutting the gum. The goal is to see which approach better preserves the bone around the implant, causes less pain, and helps the gum heal faster. Ten adults who need at least two implants in the same jaw will each receive both types of implants (one of each) so the results can be directly compared.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dental implant surgery (flapless guided vs. conventional flap)
What this could lead to
If flapless guided placement works better, it could become the preferred method for dental implants, leading to less pain and better long-term bone preservation.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The flapless technique may not always be suitable for complex cases.
