VA launches massive study to find safer blood thinner for Veterans' heart condition

NCT ID NCT06953726

Summary

This large VA study aims to determine which of two commonly prescribed blood thinners is safer and more effective for preventing strokes in veterans with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). The trial will compare apixaban (Eliquis) and rivaroxaban (Xarelto) in approximately 10,000 veterans over several years, tracking rates of stroke, serious bleeding, and death. All information will be collected from medical records after participants receive their first prescription.
