New chemo combo tested to prevent leukemia return in younger patients
NCT ID NCT00932412
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 36 times
Summary
This study tested whether a combination of two chemotherapy drugs (clofarabine and intermediate-dose cytarabine, called CLARA) works better than high-dose cytarabine alone (HDAC) to keep acute myeloid leukemia (AML) from coming back after initial treatment. It included 735 younger adults (ages 18-60) with newly diagnosed AML who had achieved remission. The goal was to see which approach offers longer disease-free survival with manageable side effects.
