Spine surgery showdown: new technique vs standard for neck paralysis risk
NCT ID NCT04968028
First seen May 16, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares two surgical methods for severe cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL), a condition where bone spurs form in the spine and can compress the spinal cord. The trial involves 167 adults aged 18-70 who will receive either a newer procedure called Anterior Controllable Antedisplacement and Fusion (ACAF) or a standard posterior laminoplasty. Researchers will measure nerve function recovery, safety, and imaging results over two years to see which surgery works better.
