Summary

This study tests a community violence prevention program for adults who have been hospitalized with a gunshot wound in Central Arkansas. The program offers bedside support, peer mentoring, and case management to help people stay safe and address mental health needs. Researchers will measure changes in risky firearm behaviors, PTSD, and anxiety over time.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Behavioral intervention (bedside support, peer mentoring, case management)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward an effective community model to prevent repeat firearm violence and reduce PTSD and anxiety after gun injuries.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage optimization trial with only 208 participants in one region, so results may not apply elsewhere. The outcomes rely on self-reported behaviors, which can be unreliable.
