Stent or stoma before surgery may improve colon cancer outcomes

NCT ID NCT04450758

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study looks at two ways to treat colon cancer that has blocked the bowel. One group gets emergency surgery right away. The other group first gets a stent (a small tube) or a stoma (an opening in the belly) to relieve the blockage, then has surgery later. Researchers will compare complications within 30 days and survival rates after 3 and 5 years. The study aims to find which approach is safer and more effective for patients.
