Wrist fracture study: does adding a pin improve healing?

NCT ID NCT07281469

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two ways to treat a Colles' fracture (a broken wrist). One group gets a plaster cast after the bone is set; the other gets a small metal pin (K-wire) plus a cast. Researchers will check wrist function in 60 adults aged 18–60 to see which method works better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

K-wire fixation and plaster of Paris

What this could lead to

If K-wire fixation proves better, it could become the standard approach for treating Colles' fractures, reducing the risk of bone shifting during healing.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants. The results may not apply to all patients, and K-wire fixation carries risks like infection or nerve injury.
