Could a collagen wrap boost achilles tendon recovery?

NCT ID NCT07130357

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding a collagen scaffold during surgery for a torn Achilles tendon helps people heal better and faster. 48 adults will be randomly assigned to get either standard surgery or surgery plus the scaffold. Their tendon function, strength, and healing will be checked over a year. The goal is to see if the scaffold leads to fewer complications and better recovery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
collagen scaffold (a device made from bovine collagen placed over the repaired tendon)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could mean faster and stronger recovery after Achilles tendon surgery, with fewer complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 48 people. The scaffold is made from cow material, so people with allergies to bovine products cannot join. There is also a risk of surgical complications like infection or re-rupture.
