Military study tests icy wrap to fight painkiller epidemic after surgery

NCT ID NCT05011084

Summary

This study is testing whether adding compression to standard cold therapy (cryotherapy) provides better pain relief after common joint surgeries. Researchers are comparing a cold wrap with compression to a cold wrap alone in 348 military-affiliated adults recovering from knee, shoulder, or hip procedures. The main goal is to see if the combined therapy reduces pain more effectively, which could help patients use fewer opioid painkillers.
