Can a common pill rewire the brain's 'fast food' choices?

NCT ID NCT05785429

Summary

This study aimed to understand if low-grade inflammation in the body makes it harder for people with overweight or obesity to choose healthier foods that require more effort. Researchers gave 59 overweight women either an anti-inflammatory drug (colchicine) or a placebo and used brain scans and decision-making games to see if the drug changed how their brains valued effort versus reward, especially related to food. The goal was to gather knowledge about the brain's role in obesity, not to provide a treatment.
