Old gout drug tested as new hope for COVID-19 recovery

NCT ID NCT06847204

Summary

This study tested whether colchicine, a common and affordable anti-inflammatory drug used for gout, could help patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 pneumonia. Researchers gave the drug to 66 hospitalized patients to see if it could shorten their hospital stay and reduce their need for supplemental oxygen. The goal was to find a low-cost treatment option, especially for areas where expensive COVID-19 drugs are hard to get.
