Could slow breathing boost exercise benefits for high blood pressure?
NCT ID NCT07573683
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether adding a slow breathing technique (coherent breathing) to aerobic exercise improves heart and lung health and quality of life more than exercise alone. Forty adults with stage 1 high blood pressure will take part in a 4-week program. Researchers will measure blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate, and quality of life to see if the combination offers extra benefits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- coherent breathing and aerobic exercise
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to better manage early-stage high blood pressure.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, short-term study (40 people, 4 weeks). Results may not apply to everyone, and the added benefit of breathing exercises may be minimal.
