First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests two 18-month talk therapy programs—Cognitive Enhancement Therapy and Enriched Supportive Therapy—for people with schizophrenia who have lasting negative symptoms like low motivation and social withdrawal. About 90 outpatients aged 18-60 will participate. The goal is to see if these therapies can reduce these symptoms and improve daily functioning.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cognitive Enhancement Therapy and Enriched Supportive Therapy (talk therapy programs)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a proven talk therapy option to reduce negative symptoms like lack of motivation and social withdrawal in schizophrenia.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with 90 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapies are time-intensive (18 months), and benefits may be modest or not last long-term.
