First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Participants will receive the implant as part of their normal care, and researchers will track their progress over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cochlear implant device (Nucleus Nexa CI1032, CI1022, or CI1012)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could confirm that newer cochlear implants provide better speech understanding and hearing quality for adults with severe hearing loss.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a randomized trial, so results may be less definitive. It is also small (66 people) and not yet recruiting, so findings may not apply to everyone.
