New device could preserve hearing implant option after risky tumor surgery

NCT ID NCT03261726

Summary

This study tested whether a small device could keep the inner ear open after surgery to remove acoustic neuroma tumors. The surgery often causes complete hearing loss and can scar the inner ear, making future cochlear implants impossible. Researchers wanted to see if placing a temporary device during surgery could maintain the option for a hearing implant later if needed.
