Study explores whether nicotine pouches make young adults drink more
NCT ID NCT07095140
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how young adults use oral nicotine pouches (like ZYN) and alcohol together. Researchers want to know if the nicotine strength or flavor of the pouch affects how much alcohol people drink. Twenty participants aged 21-30 who use nicotine pouches daily and drink at least three days a week will wear alcohol-monitoring wristbands and answer surveys. The goal is to gather information that could guide future rules and cancer prevention efforts.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Nicotine oral pouches (ZYN)
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help regulators understand how nicotine pouch flavors and strengths affect alcohol use, guiding future rules to lower cancer risk in young adults.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It does not test a treatment or cure.
