New hope for CMV eye infection: antiviral showdown begins

Summary
This study compares two antiviral treatments—oral valganciclovir and ganciclovir eye drops—against a placebo for cytomegalovirus (CMV) anterior uveitis, a viral infection that causes inflammation inside the front of the eye. About 117 adults with active eye inflammation will receive one of the treatments for 7 days to see which reduces the virus fastest. Those whose inflammation clears may then join a 12-month follow-up study to see if long-term antiviral use can prevent the infection from coming back.
