New leukemia treatment strategy aims for a 'Drug Holiday'

NCT ID NCT04070443

Summary

This study is testing a two-step treatment plan for adults newly diagnosed with a common type of chronic leukemia. First, patients take a stronger drug (ponatinib) for six months to deeply reduce the cancer. Then, they switch to a standard, gentler drug (imatinib) for up to three years. The main goal is to see if this approach allows enough patients to reach a point where they can safely stop all medication for a period of time.
