Leukemia treatment breakthrough tested: can adding interferon help patients stop medication?
NCT ID NCT02201459
Summary
This study tested whether adding interferon to the standard drug nilotinib helps newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia patients achieve a deeper reduction in leukemia cells. 200 patients were randomly assigned to receive either nilotinib alone or nilotinib plus interferon for up to two years. The main goal was to see if the combination could get more patients to a very low level of detectable disease, which might allow them to safely stop treatment in the future.
