New antibiotic hope for heart surgery patients with allergies

NCT ID NCT07267013

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at whether the antibiotic clindamycin can be used instead of vancomycin to prevent infections in people having heart surgery with a heart-lung machine. Many patients are allergic to the usual antibiotics, and vancomycin can be hard to use safely. The goal is to measure clindamycin levels in the blood during surgery to make sure it stays high enough to fight bacteria. About 25 adults will take part to see if this approach works.
