Allergy drug repurposed to repair damaged nerves in vision disorder

NCT ID NCT02521311

Summary

This study is testing whether clemastine, an older allergy medication, can help repair damaged nerve coatings in people with recent optic neuritis. Researchers will enroll 90 participants who developed optic neuritis within the past 3 weeks to receive either clemastine or a placebo for 9 months. The main goal is to see if the drug helps restore vision by promoting myelin repair around optic nerves.
