Can cleaner indoor air help people breathe easier?

Summary
This large study is testing whether using special air cleaners in the home can help people with COPD. It will involve 770 former smokers with COPD across multiple medical centers. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either real air cleaners or look-alike devices that don't clean the air, and researchers will track their breathing problems, quality of life, and medication use for one year.
