First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a real-time microscope (confocal laser endomicroscopy) during a lung lining biopsy helps doctors diagnose unknown pleural disease more accurately. About 158 adults with unexplained fluid around the lung will be randomly assigned to standard biopsy or microscope-guided biopsy. The goal is to see if the new method improves diagnosis and reduces the number of biopsies needed.
