First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether inhaling citrus or clove oil for 2 minutes, three times a week for a month, can reduce fatigue, improve sleep, and enhance quality of life in adults aged 65 and older. Researchers will compare the effects of each oil against a placebo in 51 participants. The goal is to find a simple, drug-free way to support well-being in older adults.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

citrus oil and clove oil
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, natural way to help older adults feel less tired and sleep better.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 51 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The effects might be due to the placebo response rather than the oils themselves.
