Summary

This study looked at how difficult early life experiences might change the way children feel pain and later develop mental health issues. Thirty-nine kids from a larger study were asked to keep their hand in cold water as long as they could, once alone and once holding a parent's hand. Researchers measured how long they lasted, how much pain they reported, and stress hormone levels to see if family support makes a difference.
