First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new chickenpox vaccine called MG1111 in healthy children aged 1 to 12 years. About 474 kids will receive either the new vaccine or the current one (Varivax) to compare safety and immune response. Participants will be followed for 42 days after each dose, and up to 10 years to see if they get chickenpox.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
MG1111 (Barycela inj.) chickenpox vaccine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a safe and effective alternative chickenpox vaccine for children, with protection lasting up to 10 years.
What could go wrong
This is a non-inferiority trial, meaning the new vaccine may not be better than the existing one. Also, long-term protection data is still being collected.
