First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study looked at whether chewing gum (with or without sugar) can reduce pain and fear in children aged 7 to 12 during a blood draw. 144 children were randomly assigned to chew sugared gum, sugar-free gum, or no gum. Researchers measured pain, fear, and crying time. The goal was to find a simple, low-cost way to make needle procedures more comfortable for kids.
