Phone calls and pills: a new plan for patients sent home with chest tubes

NCT ID NCT03943511

Summary

This study tested a new way to care for patients who go home from the hospital with a chest tube still in place after lung surgery. Researchers wanted to see if giving patients antibiotics and checking in with them by phone twice a week could prevent serious chest infections, compared to the usual care where patients call their doctor when ready. The trial was stopped early and involved 25 participants.
