First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Jun 11, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looked at whether explaining the potential harms of chemotherapy—including how it can worsen life-threatening conditions—helps patients with incurable stage IV lung cancer avoid unnecessary chemo near the end of life. 123 patients were randomly assigned to receive either standard information or a more detailed explanation of chemotherapy's risks. The goal was to see if this honest communication reduced the number of patients receiving chemotherapy in their last 30 days, without harming survival.
