Surgeons test Nerve-Cutting procedure to tame deadly heart rhythms

NCT ID NCT04239144

Summary

This study tested a new surgical approach to reduce life-threatening irregular heartbeats in people with Chagas heart disease. It compared a minimally invasive surgery that cuts specific nerves to standard treatments like medication and a catheter procedure. The goal was to see which method best prevents these dangerous rhythms and reduces the need for painful shocks from an implanted defibrillator.
