New laparoscopic technique could match open surgery for cervical cancer

NCT ID NCT06836869

First seen Mar 28, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tests whether a newer, less invasive laparoscopic surgery (with special steps to avoid spreading cancer cells) works as well as standard open surgery for people with stage IB2 cervical cancer. About 524 participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two surgeries and followed for up to 4.5 years. The main goal is to see if the laparoscopic approach is no worse at preventing cancer from coming back.
