Self-Sampling could boost cervical cancer screening in older women

NCT ID NCT07244315

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether women aged 50 to 65 can collect their own samples for HPV testing to screen for cervical cancer. About 500 women in Cameroon participated. Those who tested positive for HPV then had a Pap smear and other exams to check for precancerous changes. The goal was to see if this approach works well in low-income countries where standard screening is often difficult.
