More wires, more worry: study links cerclage count to infection after femur surgery
NCT ID NCT07434258
First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study reviewed 148 patients who had thigh bone or hip replacement-related fracture surgery using metal wires (cerclage) to hold bone pieces together. Researchers found that using more wires was linked to a higher risk of deep infection and persistent wound drainage. The findings suggest surgeons should use the fewest wires possible to reduce infection risk.
