Can a simple filter save fragile newborns from dangerous infections?

NCT ID NCT05537389

First seen Apr 10, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a filter to the IV lines of newborns in intensive care can reduce infections and inflammation. Tiny particles in IV fluids may harm babies, and filters might block them. About 736 newborns with central lines will be randomly assigned to receive filtered or standard IV sets, and researchers will track how many develop signs of infection.
