Doctors track antibiotic in sickest liver patients

NCT ID NCT05960006

Summary

This study aimed to understand how the antibiotic ceftriaxone moves through and leaves the bodies of patients with severe, decompensated liver cirrhosis. Researchers observed 20 hospitalized patients who were already receiving this antibiotic and a procedure to drain abdominal fluid. They collected leftover blood and fluid samples to measure drug levels, with the goal of improving future dosing guidelines for similar patients.
