First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested a new method of giving the antibiotic cefoxitin during colorectal surgery to prevent infections. Instead of the standard fixed dose, a pump was used to adjust the dose based on each patient's weight and kidney function. The trial included over 2,400 adults having colon or rectal surgery and compared infection rates between the two methods.
