Kidney cancer patients may get a drug holiday thanks to new scan technique
NCT ID NCT07615348
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether people with advanced kidney cancer can safely pause their medication after one year of treatment. Doctors will use a special PET scan that targets CD70 to decide who qualifies for a treatment break. The goal is to see if patients can stop drugs without the cancer coming back, improving their quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor + VEGFR-TKI combination therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could allow some kidney cancer patients to take a break from treatment without the cancer growing back, improving quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 75 participants. The treatment holiday may not be safe for everyone, and cancer could progress during the break.
