Shorter catheter time after surgery could mean fewer infections, quicker recovery

NCT ID NCT04359069

Summary

This study aims to find the best time to remove the urinary catheter after major rectal surgery. Researchers are comparing removing the catheter after 1 day versus the standard 3 days to see if the shorter time leads to fewer urinary tract infections and shorter hospital stays without increasing problems with urination. About 176 adults having this specific elective surgery will be randomly assigned to one of the two removal schedules.
