First seen Jan 21, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving extra money to pregnant women with low incomes helps their babies grow better and improves the mothers' mental health. About 1,250 women in Appalachia will be randomly assigned to receive either a larger or smaller cash allowance during pregnancy and after birth. Researchers will track preterm births, baby weight, depression scores, and NICU visits to see if financial support makes a difference.
