New chemo formula could cut side effects in lymphoma transplants

NCT ID NCT06915246

First seen Apr 01, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This phase 2 trial is testing a new formulation of the chemotherapy drug carmustine that doesn't contain ethanol, compared to the standard version that does. Both are used as part of the BEAM conditioning regimen before an autologous stem cell transplant in adults with Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The study aims to see if the ethanol-free version causes fewer infusion-related and other serious side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

carmustine

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a safer version of a standard chemotherapy drug used in stem cell transplants for lymphoma, reducing side effects from the ethanol solvent.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase 2 trial with only 49 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The new formulation might not reduce toxicities as hoped, or could have unexpected risks.

Conditions
