First seen Jul 06, 2026 · Last updated Jul 07, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a digital package called CARE-TB to help people with tuberculosis take their medication as prescribed. The package includes video observation of pill-taking, digital reminders, telecounselling, and educational materials. Researchers will compare this approach to standard in-person observation in about 80 adults with pulmonary TB in Malaysia. The goal is to see if the digital method improves adherence and treatment completion.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- CARE-TB digital adherence package (video-observed therapy, digital reminders, telecounselling, e-learning)
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this approach could improve TB treatment completion rates and reduce disease spread, relapse, and drug resistance.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study in one region, so results may not apply broadly. Digital adherence relies on patient access to technology and willingness to engage.
