NCT ID NCT07358221

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will compare three different fluids used to protect the heart during coronary artery bypass surgery. Researchers will measure tiny particles and immune system markers in the blood to see which fluid causes the least heart muscle injury. The goal is to find the safest approach for patients undergoing this common heart procedure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

cardioplegia solutions (St. Thomas' cold crystalloid, Calafiore warm blood, modified del Nido cold blood)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help surgeons choose the best heart-protection method during bypass surgery, potentially reducing heart damage.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study (30 people) that measures biological markers, not patient outcomes. The results may not change practice directly.
