Breathing and muscle training may help heart failure patients recover faster
NCT ID NCT07506499
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether combining breathing exercises with mild electrical muscle stimulation can help people hospitalized with worsening heart failure. 135 patients will be split into three groups: one gets both treatments plus standard care, one gets breathing exercises only, and one gets standard care alone. The goal is to see if these therapies improve heart function, breathing strength, and daily activity.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Inspiratory muscle trainer and functional electrical stimulation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, non-drug rehab approach to help heart failure patients breathe easier and move better.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 135 participants. The devices may not provide lasting benefits, and results may not apply to all heart failure patients.
