Engineered immune cells take on stomach cancer in Late-Stage trial
NCT ID NCT07103668
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests a new treatment called IMC002, which uses a patient's own immune cells (CAR T-cells) engineered to target a protein called CLDN18.2 found on some stomach cancer cells. The study includes 150 adults with advanced stomach cancer that has not responded to at least two prior treatments. Participants will receive either IMC002 or standard chemotherapy to see which better controls the cancer and extends survival.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
CAR T-cells (IMC002)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced gastric cancer that has not responded to other therapies.
What could go wrong
This is still an experimental therapy. CAR T-cells can cause serious side effects, and it is not yet known if they work better than chemotherapy in this setting.
